Tarbrax Shale Mining

This is a view of the shale mining community of Tarbrax. The view was probably taken in the 1920s. At this stage, shale mining was becoming less profitable as the demand for the paraffin was in decline. Oil was fast becoming in great demand as a fuel. By 1925, the paraffin works had closed.

The card was produced by the firm of James McCulloch & Co of Edinburgh.
